Welcome to the Indicam Surfer website.

Three and a half years in planning, design, testing, and production..."The Indicam Surfer stabilization system!" It is by far the best stabilizer you can buy for the money.

Our system is:

  • Solidly built

  • Lightweight

  • Comfortable

  • Easy to use

  • Has an integrated backpack / vest for carrying the system and then being a part of it

  • Solid performer

  • Human arm technology

*We have many new and exclusive features.

Endoskeletal Design - (Indicam Exclusive) Like our human arm, where the "bones" are inside surrounded by muscles, the Indicam Surfer's arm has the "bones" on the inside surrounded by the muscles, or in this case, springs. Here are some of the benefits:

  •

    • strong - square tube construction not channel construction

    • lightweight - lighter square aluminum tubing

    • quick camera weight change options

    • dual camera setups with the 214 arm

    • Allows fold-up quickly for storage in the backpack / vest

  • Hybrid Arm - (Indicam exclusive) Our lower arm has thicker (1/8 inch) aluminum walls which help to negate torque while our upper arm is lighter aluminum (1/16 inch) which allows a quicker response to external movement. Our arms are well built.

  • Discreet Vest - We were the first to make a vest which can be worn under a jacket or coat if desired. By covering up the vest, the operator can blend in better and not call attention to themself. This is especially desirable at weddings where everyone's' eyes should be kept on the bride. Our Discreet Vest uses an "X" factor construction which makes it fit more snug the heavier the load. Our thanks to one of our fine customers, Peter Chung, for the suggestion to develope the new vest.

  • High Shot - (Indicam exclusive) This fits between the post handle and the receiver and give a "basketball players" point of view. This "high" perspective is not a common shot to see in steadicam work which makes it all the more interesting.

  • Crossbar Rest - (Indicam exclusive) Allows the operator to do static telephoto shots, pull back, and then move into steadicam shots without cutting in between.

Gimbal-vs-Non-Gimbal

This flash video shows clips from two different types of stabilizers. The first one has no gimbal. The operator holds the sled at it's center of gravity where the gimbal usually is. The effects of body movement aren't isolated especially side to side. The second stabilizer (Indicam Surfer) uses a full floating 3-axis gimbal so the sled is completly isolated from body movement.

The camera (Z1U) was zoomed in all the way to show an exaggerated view of what the camera was seeing. To get the best shot available, use a sled with a smooth 3-axis gimbal.
